On August the 20th there is a Vide Grenier (sort of car boot sale) and a meal. On the following day there is the Pardon of Saint-Ignace, which is held deep in the ancient forest of Quénecan near Anse de Sordan. Throughout the year various car rallies and motor cycle rallies go through the village

This year, the Tour de France is stopping for the night of July the 5th at Mur de Bretagne, and will be passing very close to the village of Saint-Aignan. This affords a real spectacle, which almost everyone in the area will see. People take their picnics and barbecues which they set up on the route some time before the race is due, as the 'caravan' which precedes the race is very entertaining with many 'freebees'.

The dam (barrage) which was built in 1920 -1930 thus forming the beautiful Lac de Guerlédan (which is 10 miles in length )is about 3 minutes away by car and there are several sandy beaches around the lake.
Anse de Sordan (about 10 minutes by car) on the southern bank has a very good restaurant as well as a slipway, a safe sandy beach, picnic and childrens' play areas. Canoes and pedaloes are available for hire.
Near to Mur de Bretagne, also about 10 minutes away by car, there is another safe sandy beach with a large grassy picnic area with many tables and public conveniences. There are canoes available for hire here too.
On the northern bank of the lake, about 15 minutes away by car, there is Beau Rivage, with two restaurants, a creperie, slipways, a safe sandy beach, picnic area, crazy golf and public conveniences. Boats etc are available for hire, and you can try water-skiing here too as well as taking a trip all around the lake on a vedette, with the possibility of a meal on board. This is extra special in the evening. Beau Rivage is a real hive of activity, close to the main village of Caurel, where there are more restaurants and a shop.
The Guerlédan lake is very beautiful with many walks around, some of which are suitable for people with reduced mobility.
At the far end of the lake, (about 20 minutes away by car) there is the Abbey of Bon-Repos, where guided tours in English are available on request and there are regular exhibitions. The opening hours are 11 am until 7 pm every day during the summer. In August (this year on the 5th, 6th, 11th, 12th and 13th,) there is an excellent and highly recommended sound and light show (Son et Lumiére), which tells the history of the region.
On Sunday mornings there is a popular market here by the canal, there are several cafés, and a very good restaurant, as well as some shops.
Close by is the old iron workers village of Les Forges des Salles, where there is an English language guided tour every Sunday at 3 o'clock. The opening hours during July and August are 2 pm to 6.30 pm every day.
The nearby Gorges de Daoulas is very pretty with its' tumbling river.

During the summer, there are Pardons and Fest Noz almost every weekend, which are great fun. Usually there is a meal available, not at great cost - usually about 10-12€ a head normally including drinks. Crepes are often offered too if you don't want the full meal.

Pontivy (about 15 minutes by car) has a big Chateau and the old part of the town is very pretty, with many restaurants. There are several large supermarkets and many small shops. (Centre Leclerc, Intermarché, Aldi, Super U, Netto, Lidyl etc) and swimming pools Josselin (about 40 minutes by car) is a very pretty town with a beautiful Chateau and small shops and restaurants.

There are so many interesting places to visit, whether you prefer country walks, lake side activities, shopping or visiting lovely town and villages. It takes under an hour to travel to either the south or the north coasts, with their beautiful beaches, and nearly 2 hours to the wonderful west coast and the Brest area.
